Hand holding a TV remote control — ViviMate IPTV guide

If you've heard people talk about "IPTV" and wondered how it differs from the cable box under your TV, this guide is for you. We'll explain what ViviMate IPTV is, how the technology gets live channels onto your screen, and exactly what you need at home to start watching, without the jargon.

What is ViviMate IPTV?

ViviMate IPTV is a subscription service that delivers TV over your internet connection. Instead of a satellite dish or a coaxial cable, the picture arrives as a data stream, the same way a video call or an online film does. A subscription gives you access to three things:

  • Live TV: channels you watch as they broadcast, including sports, news and entertainment.
  • Video on demand (VOD): a library of films and series you can start whenever you like.
  • An electronic programme guide (EPG): the grid that shows what's on now and next.

You can browse the content categories on the ViviMate channels overview and compare subscription lengths on the ViviMate plans page. Everything that comes with each plan is listed on the ViviMate features page.

How IPTV delivery works

IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television. Traditional TV pushes every channel down the cable or satellite link at once, and your box tunes into one. IPTV works differently: your device requests only the channel you've selected, and the server sends that single stream.

That has a few practical consequences:

  • Your connection matters. Picture quality depends on how much bandwidth is available and how stable it is. More on that below.
  • Any compatible screen works. Because it's just data, the same subscription can be watched on a TV, a phone or a laptop.
  • Switching channels takes a moment. Each change starts a new stream, so a brief pause when zapping is normal.

The subscription and the player are separate

This is the part that confuses most newcomers. ViviMate is the service, meaning the content and the servers that deliver it. To actually watch, you use an IPTV player: an app on your device that logs in to the service and displays the channels, library and guide.

Players connect using one of three common methods:

MethodWhat you enterTypical devices
Xtream Codes loginServer address, username and passwordFire TV, Android, iPhone, Smart TVs
M3U playlistA single playlist link (plus an EPG link in some players)Computers, Smart TVs, most players
Portal (MAC)A portal address; the box is identified by its MAC addressMAG and similar set-top boxes

When you order, you receive the details for the method that suits your device. The ViviMate setup guide walks through each one, and the M3U vs Xtream Codes guide explains how the two app-based formats differ.

ViviMate vs TiviMate: the names are similar but they are unrelated. TiviMate is an independent IPTV player app for Android-based devices. ViviMate is a subscription service. You can use TiviMate as one of several players for watching ViviMate, but neither is part of the other.

What you need at home

1. A compatible device

Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV sticks, Android devices, iPhones and iPads, Macs and PCs, Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and MAG devices all work. The ViviMate compatible devices page lists example players for each.

2. An IPTV player app

Pick one that runs on your device and supports the connection method you'll use. Many are free or have a free tier, and some offer paid extras such as recording or multi-view. The ViviMate IPTV player guide compares the supported apps side by side.

3. A steady internet connection

These are sensible per-stream guidelines for compressed video:

QualitySuggested download speed
SD5 Mbps
HD (720p–1080p)10 Mbps
4K Ultra HD25 Mbps
8K50 Mbps or more

Stability matters as much as speed: a 30 Mbps line that drops out every few minutes will buffer more than a steady 20 Mbps one. You can check yours with the ViviMate streaming speed test.

Picture quality: HD, 4K and 8K

ViviMate streams at the quality each source provides. Across the industry most live channels are broadcast in HD, with 4K reserved for streams whose source is produced in Ultra HD. ViviMate is 8K-ready, but genuine 8K broadcasts are still uncommon across the whole industry, and you need an 8K screen and a device that can decode 8K to benefit. The ViviMate 4K and 8K guide explains what hardware you need for each.

Is ViviMate right for you?

ViviMate is a good fit if you:

  • want live channels and an on-demand library in one place;
  • watch on more than one kind of device;
  • have a broadband connection that comfortably meets the speeds above;
  • are happy to install a player app, which takes a few minutes.

If you're unsure whether your particular TV or box will work, ask before ordering. Support can confirm compatibility and suggest a player. The ViviMate FAQ also answers common questions about delivery, payment and VPN use.

Next steps

  1. Run the speed test on the device you'll watch on.
  2. Check your device on the compatibility list.
  3. Choose a length on the ViviMate pricing page (the subscription guide helps you decide) and place your order.
  4. Follow the setup guide when your details arrive.
