Streaming speed test

ViviMate Streaming Speed Test

Measure your download, upload and ping, then compare the result with the guideline speeds for SD, HD, 4K and 8K. For the most useful result, run it on the device you'll watch on.

Streaming quality guide

Suggested stable download speed per stream.

  • SD480p · 5+ MbpsPhones and small screens, or a fallback on slow connections.
  • HD720p–1080p · 10+ MbpsEveryday viewing on most TVs, laptops and tablets.
  • 4K2160p · 25+ MbpsUltra HD on a 4K TV or 4K streaming stick.
  • 8K4320p · 50+ Mbps8K streams on an 8K TV that can decode them.

This test measures the connection between your device and the vivimatepro.net server. It is a useful guide, not a guarantee: actual streaming quality also depends on Wi-Fi signal, other devices on your network, your player app and the stream itself. Speeds are per stream, so multiply for several screens.

Understanding your results

Download speed
How quickly data reaches your device, in megabits per second (Mbps). This is the number that matters most for streaming, since video flows towards you.
Upload speed
How quickly your device can send data. Streaming uses very little upload, but a very low figure can point to a congested or unstable connection.
Ping
The round-trip time for a small request, in milliseconds. Lower is better. Ping mostly affects how quickly channels start, and jitter (variation in ping) can hint at an unstable Wi-Fi link.

How much speed does IPTV need?

These guideline figures are per stream. If two people watch at once, one in 4K and one in HD, add them together: roughly 25 + 10 = 35 Mbps, plus headroom for everything else on your network.

Ways to improve a slow result

  • Connect your TV device with an Ethernet cable, or move closer to the router.
  • Use your router's 5 GHz Wi-Fi band rather than 2.4 GHz.
  • Pause large downloads, game updates and cloud backups while you watch.
  • Restart your router if it hasn't been restarted in a while.
  • Test at different times of day. Evening slowdowns point to congestion at your provider.

More fixes are in the ViviMate troubleshooting guide, and the 4K and 8K guide covers the hardware side of Ultra HD.

About this test: it measures the connection between your device and the vivimatepro.net server using temporary test data that is discarded immediately. Nothing about your result is stored. Results are an indication only and do not guarantee a particular streaming quality.
